Get The Kids Cooking
Published by Carolin on Tagged Beef, Chicken, Dinner
I was thinking today about kid friendly recipes today. I have mentioned before how I love kids cooking. I don’t think they can really be to young to be exposed to cooking. If you think about it most of us were probably on our mothers hips while she cooked. Things never seem to change except these days it is moms or dads hip. But I think kids cooking and kid friendly recipes are a necessity in our lives today. There are certain flavors that just scream out kid friendly. Like ketchup and mustard. These are two flavors that most kids love. Now I am the person that believes the more flavors you expose to a kid the better off everyone is. Now saying that I still have the kid that loves to cook with me but won’t necessarily try the food. But that’s a whole different issue.
Another ingredient that most kid’s love is ground beef or ground chicken. I think these flavors just stick with us, as we get older.
Well if you want to get your kids cooking or if you want to do some cooking for your kids. I have a quick and simple little dinner for you today. My friend Chantal shared this with me years ago. I have changed it a bit and as usual I encourage you to switch it up to suit you. But one thing for sure it is a great recipe to get the kids cooking.
Stuffed Buns
1lb ground beef, chicken or turkey
½ medium onion chopped (optional)
1 can chicken and rice soup
2-3 Tbsp ketchup
2-3 Tbsp mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper
6 Hamburger Buns
In a sauté pan, brown meat over medium heat. Once meat is browned remove meat from the pan and sauté onions in fat. If there isn’t enough fat use some olive oil. Once onions are soft add back the meat and all the other ingredients. Cook until reduced and no liquid is visible.
Under broiler toast buns.
Preheat oven to 350°F
Spoon mixture into buns. Close and then place on a baking sheet. Warm in oven for about 5-7 minutes.
Serve with a nice green salad and everyone will be happy.
COOKING TIP OF THE DAY
If you have leftover stuffed buns, they are excellent for lunch the next day. Just be sure to wrap them in foil. If you use plastic wrap they go soggy.
